To the Stewardship
I have now heard the Lamp of Memory read eleven times. It was a fine
thing the first time. It is now furniture. I do not think a house is
improved by words it can no longer hear, and I ask that it be dropped.
I am aware that I may simply leave the room, and that nobody would
remark on it. I would rather say the thing out loud.

[Endorsed in another hand:] Answered 19 February. The reading stands;
the house may omit it and enter the omission, which is what the form
is for. Shore House has done so since 1986 and no one has died of it.
The signature is withheld at the correspondent's request, entered on the file in 1988 and not revisited.
