Correspondence
Write to a house. A person will read it.
There is no enquiry form on this site and there is not going to be one. A form is a way of receiving a letter without having to read it. Three houses receive enquiries; the others do not, and will forward nothing.
The passage of a letter
- 01A letter is opened by the steward of the house that received it, or by the member on the rota that week, who does not read past the first page if it is addressed to the steward.
- 02It is read within a fortnight. In March, when the year's enquiries are read together, it may be longer.
- 03It is answered in writing, on paper, by a person who has read it. We do not send acknowledgements, and there is nothing to acknowledge until there is an answer.
- 04It is then retained. Correspondence with the Institute is kept; it is not destroyed at the writer's request, though it can be closed, which means that it is not read again without cause.
Electronic mail
The Institute does not use email for enquiries. An address was taken in 1997 and has been retained since:
north.house@continuance-institute.org
It is checked in March. Everything found in it is printed and entered with the year's enquiries. Nothing sent to it is deleted.
Before writing about attendance, it may be quicker to read the house calendar, which says which houses are open and when.
