Note on a rebinding

Note for the file. Sewing structure examined this morning at the request of its owner, who is not named here at his wish.

Five sewing stations, unsupported, thread of a modern make. The leaves are not modern. The gatherings have been taken down and re-sewn at least twice, and the second re-sewing was done by someone competent and unhurried who did not trouble to match the thread.

Leaf count, one hundred and forty-one. I counted three times and had the copyist count once. We agree.

There is a stub between the present leaves eighty-eight and eighty-nine of a leaf that has been cut out close to the sewing. The cut is old and is not the work of the re-sewer, whose knife I know.

I decline to say what was on it. That is the whole of the note. I have been asked twice already this week and the answer will not improve with repetition.
