MEMORANDUM MEM/2024/12

THE FIFTH EDITION

1. Two readings are withdrawn at the request of the people who wrote

them. Neither gave a reason and neither was asked for one.

2. Three readings are added, one of them by a member of nine years'

attendance who has held no office.

3. A Time to Every Purpose is not continued. Our reason is that four

houses have begun to describe it as one of our texts. It is not one

of our texts; it is a borrowing, and a borrowing that has stopped

sounding borrowed is doing harm to the book. Houses wanting it may

substitute it, and we expect that many will.

4. Two of the five signing this memorandum think paragraph 3 is a

mistake. They have asked that this be printed and it is printed.

5. Earlier editions are not called in.
