Standing memorandum settling the wording used of a member who has left. Issued without discussion at any house.
Carbon copy · house file · not to leave the archive room
1. A member who has not attended for four consecutive quarters, and who has not entered an agreed period of separation, is recorded as no longer continuous.
2. The designation is administrative. It is not a judgement, an expulsion, or a bar to return, and stewards are to say so if asked.
3. The designation is entered by the Record and not by the house. Houses are notified after entry.
4. Correspondence with a person so designated is not forbidden. It is not carried in the house post.
5. The person is informed by letter. A copy of the letter is retained. No reply is required and none is entered.
6. This memorandum replaces the practice previously followed at each house and is effective immediately.
Item 4 was withdrawn in 2019 and is reproduced here as issued.
