2. THE ROOF. The custodianship of the main roof falling vacant, two
members offered for it and neither wished to withdraw. Both are
competent. One has held two custodianships already and would be at
the limit; the other has held none.
It was proposed that the steward decide. The steward declined, on
the ground that PRO/1982/09 gives her no such power and that MEM/
1997/03 says plainly that her office is not an argument.
The house therefore counted hands. Fourteen to nine. The minority
asked that the number be minuted rather than the result alone, and
it is minuted.
The member not appointed took the orchard wall in November and has
held it since. She has asked that this sentence not be read as a
consolation and it is entered as she wrote it.
3. It was agreed that the fact of a count is itself to be entered in
the fabric file, so that a later reader knows the appointment was
contested and that nothing improper happened.
Reconciled with the Common Record
The only contested custodianship in the Cedar House books. The roof was reslated in 2009 without incident.
