FELL HOUSE — IN CASE OF FIRE NOT/2021/06
LEAVE THE BUILDING. Do not collect papers, tools, or books.
WAYS OUT
Long room — the door to the yard, and the double door to the track.
Book room — the yard door only. The window is barred and will not open.
Upper floor — the stair, and the stair only. There is no second stair.
ASSEMBLY: the field gate, 40 m up the track.
THE COUNT. The visitors' book is taken from the receiving room by whoever
reaches it on the way out. It is a fire document. It is destroyed after
ninety days and is used for nothing else.
PEOPLE WHO WILL NEED HELP TO LEAVE. Ask at the start of the evening, not
at the time. A person who says they will need help is told who will give
it and that person is told too. This is arranged by the custodian and is
not written down anywhere except here, in general terms.
THE STOPCOCK is in the boiler passage, on the left, 1 m inside the door.
THE ELECTRICAL ISOLATOR is beside it.
NO NAKED FLAME IN THE BOOK ROOM. This includes candles at any gathering.
The reading of letters at this house is read by electric light and has
been since 2004, when this was argued about at some length.
SEATED CAPACITY OF THE LONG ROOM: 52. The chairs are counted before any
public evening. The figure is not an estimate and is not to be exceeded
because more people came than were expected.
Reviewed 4 October 2025. Next review October 2026.
The 2004 argument about candles is minuted at the house and is not catalogued. The candles lost.
