Procedure Where an Obligation Is Not Met

PROCEDURE WHERE AN OBLIGATION IS NOT MET

1. This procedure applies where a duty entered on the rota has not been done. It applies whatever the reason and the reason is not to be established before it is applied.

2. The rota clerk reassigns the duty. This is done within the week and is not deferred to a meeting.

3. The house is told at notices who now holds the duty. It is not told who held it before, and no reason is given.

4. No count is kept. The rota book records who did the work. It does not record who did not, and a house keeping a separate list of omissions is to destroy it.

5. Nothing is entered in the Record about the person's standing. A rota is not a standing and failure at one is not a change in the other.

6. A steward may ask the person, once and privately, whether they would prefer to hold less. A person who does not answer is not asked again.

7. The house does not enquire of a member's household, employer, neighbours, or circle.

8. Where the same duty falls repeatedly and the person continues to attend, the steward may ask for a conversation under clause 9. The person may decline it. A decline is entered as a decline and no inference is drawn from it.

9. Nothing said in such a conversation is written down unless both parties agree a note, in which case each holds a copy. A private note taken by one party and filed is a breach of this procedure and of PRO/1990/11, clause 6.

10. This procedure creates no penalty. There is none available. The Institute cannot remove a member and does not attempt by other means what it cannot do directly.
