FAULT Right arm stump loose at the seat. Third failure at this

joint. Previous repairs 1991, 1997, 2006, 2013, 2019.

METHOD Old glue reversed with heat and water. New 12 mm dowel,

hide glue, cramped 48 hours.

MATERIALS Dowel stock, hide glue. $6.40.

TIME 11 hours, of which 7 were teaching.

TREASURER'S NOTE, appended (as in 2016): cumulative expenditure on this

object since 1991, in materials only, is $71.20. A comparable chair at

auction is $90 to $140. The eleven hours are not costed here because the

house does not cost its own hours, which is the part of this argument

that cannot be settled with a figure.

CUSTODIAN'S NOTE: four people have now learned to cut and reverse a

dowel joint on this chair. That is what the chair is for. It has not

been for sitting on since about 2006.
