FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPARATIVE RELIGION AND MATERIAL TRADITIONS
It is with regret that the Department records the death, on the seventeenth of January, of Alistair Wren, D.Phil., formerly Reader in this Department.
Dr. Wren came to the Department in 1949 and taught here for twenty-six years. His work on manuscript provenance was of a thoroughness that his colleagues found by turns admirable and exhausting, and two generations of graduate students learned from him that a source is not a source until you have said where it has been.
He retired from teaching in 1975 and continued to work in the archive by arrangement.
The funeral is private. The Department will hold a memorial in the Lent term. Enquiries to the Departmental Secretary.
Held at the North House with the rest of the deposit. Reproduced from the printed notice. The Institute holds no independent record of the event described.
