Provenance: Found unlabelled in a folder of circular proofs during the 1994 sort and accessioned from it. No donor is recorded.
Description: gelatin print, one exposure, artificial light from a single fitting above the table. Twelve figures are seated along the two long sides. The chair at the head of the table is unoccupied and no papers are laid at that place. The plaster of the wall behind it is darker than the plaster to either side.
Condition: fair. General fading, heaviest at the upper edge. A crease runs through the lower left quarter. The darkening of the wall is in the print and not in the paper; it has not been assessed further.
Not recorded: Date of the exposure. The catalogue year is the year of accession. House, room, and the matter under referral. Photographer. Nobody in the frame has been identified in writing.
Cataloguer's note (1994): Entered as a photograph of a session and not as a photograph of a dispute, the matter under referral being unknown. The accession clerk asked whether the empty place should be described in the entry. The reading-room convention is that the catalogue describes what is in the frame, and an empty chair is in the frame.
Cataloguer's note (2016): A reader asked whether this print is the session recorded in the 1985 minutes. The dates do not permit an answer and none has been added.
