A single index card in an unidentified hand, later annotated. Still used at three houses, which is why it is catalogued at all.

Recto, ink:
“Beans soaked overnight, a cup and a half. Barley, half. Onion, carrot, whatever is going soft. Bay if there is any. Four hours low. Salt at the end or the beans stay hard.
For twelve. For sixteen add water and another onion and do not add another cup of beans, it will not cook through and you will be scolded.”
Verso, pencil, a second hand:
“Doubled 14.11.62 for the settlement — wanted five hours, not four. B.A.”
Verso, ink, a third hand, later:
“North House kitchen. Copied out 1977. Original retained.”
