Accession ACC/2006/01
The Vey deposit
Conservation reports, an analytical table, one dictated note and two letters from the working papers of Bernard Vey, Dr. phil., accepted at the North House in February 2006.
The deposit arrived by carrier in two flat boxes, listed, foliated, and tied with linen tape, together with a covering note asking that the sewing diagram be stored flat and that nothing be laminated. The keeper of the register has written beneath it: it will not be.
Vey worked on bindings and on the materials of books rather than on their contents. The papers here concern a single bound volume brought to his bench for repair, kept for eleven weeks, and returned. He measured it, sampled it, drew it, and declined to date it.
The volume is identified in the papers by a bench number and by the name of no owner. The Institute did not hold it, has not seen it, and has made no enquiry after it.
What is not held: the samples. Four fibre and two ink samples were taken and consumed in the testing, which is the ordinary fate of such samples. The results are in the table; the material they were read from no longer exists.
