Local history

Recognised in 2006. The rota was taken on in 2008 and the circle has since trained twenty-nine members for it, eleven of whom no longer attend and six of whom still sit.

The outward obligation

Companionship and hospice

Sitting rota, held with a county hospice service.

Overnight and evening sitting in shifts, arranged so that nobody is unaccompanied through the night.

The forms it carries

  • The Quiet Twelve

Twelve minutes are kept before the reading. Nothing is assigned to the silence.

  • The Repair Table

A table, a bench, or a marked shelf where ordinary objects wait to be mended.

  • The Weather Entry

Before the first shared meal of the month, one person writes the weather in the house book.
