Local history

Recognised in 1997 after two years of provisional meetings held, at first, in the wheelhouse of a laid-up dragger. The mission dining room was offered in 1999 and has been used since.

The outward obligation

Transport and winter provision

Winter check-in round, held with the harbour district's older residents' scheme.

Fuel, transport to appointments, and a telephone round during storm periods. Between November and March it is the circle's principal business.

The forms it carries

  • The Quiet Twelve

    Twelve minutes are kept before the reading. Nothing is assigned to the silence.

  • The Repair Table

    A table, a bench, or a marked shelf where ordinary objects wait to be mended.

  • The Weather Entry

    Before the first shared meal of the month, one person writes the weather in the house book.

Local variation. The weather entry is written by whoever has been out in it, which in Rockland is usually everybody.
