Local history

Formed in 2010 around three members who worked in the book trade. Recognised in 2012. The press was bought secondhand out of the circle's own subscriptions and is entered in the Circle Book at what it cost.

The outward obligation

Records and conservation

Bindery afternoons, held with a municipal library service and two parish record offices.

Plain repair of reading-copy bindings and parish registers. The work is not signed and no charge is made.

The forms it carries

  • The Quiet Twelve

    Twelve minutes are kept before the reading. Nothing is assigned to the silence.

  • The Repair Table

    A table, a bench, or a marked shelf where ordinary objects wait to be mended.

  • The Weather Entry

    Before the first shared meal of the month, one person writes the weather in the house book.
